1) Christian Education

 

*Study of Curriculum in Christian Education

This course aims at helping the students understand the basic principles

in developing the Christian education curriculum and providing them with tools

and techniques for analysing the syllabuses with which they are going to work.

 

* Seminar in Media Use for Christian Education

The course focuses on the study of how to use audio-visual materials for

Christian education. Students approach teaching methods, practically using audio,

video, and cd-rom titles to enhance the effects of Christian education.

 

*Ministry of Christian Education

The purpose of this course is to help students to understand the relationships

between ministry and Christian education. Throughout this course students

will explore how to approach as to the problems and issues which could take

place in the ministry from the Christian educational viewpoints.

 

*Christian Education and Anthropology

This course explores what human being is and what his role and nature are in the history.

It will be tackled from the viewpoints of not only the pedagogical perspectives and Christian education.

 

*Seminar in Christian Adult Education

This course aims to help students understand the characteristics of adulthood and

provide a wide of introduction of how to give them education from the Christian perspectives.

Students will be introduced of the Christian educational curriculum, educational methodology

and possible activities for them.

 

*Seminar in Christian Youth Education

This course is designed to provide a detailed account of youth education and

their developmental features which could be employed as the foundations for

Christian youth education.

 

*Counselling Practicum

The course aims at offering them an opportunity to practice counselling,

requiring them to developing their own counselling techniques.

Their counselling performances are evaluated by the instructor and fellow teachers-to-be.

 

2) English Education

 

*Foundation & Principle of TEFL

The course aims at providing a comprehensive introduction to the profession of teaching English.

The course covers the areas that are considered critical to successful language instruction:

teaching English language skills, standard lesson types, and classroom testing.

 

*Methodology of English Teaching

The course is designed to provide a detailed account of English language teaching methodologies.

The course deals with origins of the teaching methodologies, related theories of language and learning,

syllabus design, classroom activities, roles of the teacher and the learner,

instructional materials, and teaching procedures.

 

*Teaching Materials in EFL

Curriculum and contents of English textbooks for secondary school English education

in Korea are studied. The course also deals with principles of organizing secondary

English textbooks along with teaching materials and methodologies.

The course of study includes the area of English education policy and the changes

of the curriculum over the years.

 

*English Micro-Teaching

Teachers-to-be are required to do micro-teaching sessions using a current English

textbook for secondary English education. The course aims at offering them an opportunity

to practice English language teaching, requiring them to developing their own teaching lesson

plans together with supplementary teaching materials.

The emphasis throughout the course is on language teaching practice.

Their teaching performances are evaluated by the instructor and fellow teachers-to-be.

 

*Field Research in English Teaching

The course helps teachers-to-be build a repertoire of classroom techniques

that are firmly embedded in well-established principles of language acquisition.

The emphasis throughout is on language teaching practice.

Theoretical issues do not receive undue emphasis in the course.

 

*Study of ELT Curriculum

This course aims at helping the students understand the basic principles

in developing the English language curriculum and providing them with tools and

techniques for analysing the syllabuses with which they are going to work.

 

*Seminar in English Testing

In the course a number of fundamental concepts related to testing and many examples

of tests that the students can adapt and use in the classroom are treated.

The students are required to take part in activities evaluating different kinds of tests and

formulating similar tests for their own purposes.

 

*The Use of ICT in TEFL

The main goal of this course is to discuss and experience how to use and integrate

multimedia and information technology into language learning.

The course deals with various theories and tools of multimedia and information

technology such as computer, Internet, and other related tools that have been

integrated into language education. Furthermore, students learn how to apply or

integrate these theories and tools into learning and teaching English as a foreign

language through hands-on practices and group projects.

 

*Teaching English Reading & Writing

In the course students study the theory and basic skills related to English reading

and writing by practicing reading and writing extensively. Students also learn how to

teach English reading and writing in secondary school classrooms.

 

*Seminar in Teaching Spoken English

In this course introduces both the characteristics of competence in spoken English

and procedures for teaching spoken English. Participants in the course practice

techniques for introducing language and building fluency through microteaching.

 

*Seminar in Teaching English Grammar

This course will provide students with the basic concepts in grammar teaching.

Students will develop their own grammar teaching techniques through analysing

authentic contexts. In addition, pedagogical English grammar will be covered

so that students can enhance their basic knowledge in English grammar.

 

*American/British Culture & TEFL

This course provides students with background information about American and

British culture and intends to develop intercultural communicative competence

 in this global age.

The course intends to bring students to update the most recent development in

the teaching of culture in the language classroom.

 

*Seminar in Teaching English Literature

The course is designed to study of how to teach British and American literature

in class to enhance students' understanding of other cultures and languages.

The course covers various reading materials in British and American literature.

 

*Seminar in English Linguistics

This course provides an introduction to languages, with special emphasis

on examining the structure of the English language. By studying English phonology,

morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics and varieties of English,

students are equipped with comprehensive knowledge of English

linguistics and English language, necessary for English teachers.

 

*Seminar in Second Language Acquisition

The objective of this course is to provide pre-service teachers with theoretical

background of second language acquisition and related research in the field.

This course is designed to give students a principled basis and factors in acquiring

second language, especially of English. During this course, the nature of second

language learning will be examined from linguistic, psychological, social, and cultural perspectives.

 

*Research Methodology in English Education

This course focuses on how to design their own research and collect the quantitative

and qualitative data. Over the course, students will be able to apply statistical concepts

to their own research by running SPSS. Also, they will be able to analyze and

interpret their qualitative data using various triangulation methods.

 

*Teaching School Grammar

Grammatical knowledge is essential in enhancing the communication skills of students.

Today, however, there is a prevailing notion that says, 'If one can speak English fluently,

grammatical accuracy is not so important.' Such a notion has created a misjudgment from

people and false assumption that the study of grammar is a thing in the past.

In this reason, this course focuses on recent studies about how to improve the methods

of teaching grammar in secondary schools.

 

*Studies in Teaching English Pronunciation

This course aims to increase accuracy in English intonation and pronunciation.

Particular focus is given to sounds and intonational patterns that are challenging

for Korean students. Techniques for teaching pronunciation and intonation are also introduced.

 

3) Early Childhood Education

 

*Curriculum for Young Children

The course is designed for conceptulization of kindergarten curriculum planning;

instructional materials; modern teaching methods; recent research and its application in the classroom.

Specially understanding and planning kindergarten curriculum, including objectives,

contents, teaching methods, evaluation of education, group observation of teaching.

 

*Study of Theory and Practice of Play

The course provides basic theory and research about play teaching, child development and

is used for the purpose of developing concepts at the cognitive and affective levels.

 

*Seminar in Christian Early Childhood Education

In order to establish the theories for Christian early childhood education, the concept, the philosophy,

the purpose, the learning theories, the curriculum, the methodology, the evaluation,

and the theory for teacher of christian early childhood education are dealt with.  

 

*Early Childhood Education in Christian Perspective

In the relationship between general education and Christian education, the position and

the nature of Christian early childhood education are dealt with, and the theories of early

childhood educators are applied to Christian education. Also, several theories of child's

God - concept development are studied.

 

*Seminar in Education for Children with Special Needs

Students need to understand special needs and characteristics of exceptional children

and their families and learn how to include them in educational settings and society

in non-exceptional ways.

 

*Seminar in Literature for Young Children

The purpose of this course is to help students to understand unique characteristics

of children's literature and reading & writing strategies so that they can help children

enjoy their reading at home and school.

 

*Introduction to Early Childhood Education

Students learn about historical, social, psychological trends of ECE in general,

and study different curricula and instruction models, and teaching methods in the ECE field.

 

*Research Methodology and Statistics

The course is designed for the understanding of the purpose of education research,

determination of the research planning, data, research, project design, presentation methods.

Statistic theory, its application and interpretation methods.

 

*Introduction to Teacher Education

In this course, students are expected to learn about student teaching,

pre-service & in-service programs, teachers' role and qualification,

development & change of their interests, and teacher-supervision,

and learn how to get along with others in the field of ECE.
